Massive Traffic Jam

A march by the Anti-ISA protest on Saturday (1st August 2009) has crippled traffic flow for hours. All major roads leading to Istana Negara were closed. Policemen were place at the roadblock. Hundred of FRU unit personnel are also on standby to deter the march.

Police have set up road blocks at various entry points leading into the city in a bid to restrict supporters from opposing groups from attending the rallies. The affected roads are Jalan Seremban/Sg. Besi, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Dewan Bahasa, Taman Connought, Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Travers and other entry points that lead to the Istana Negara.

The protest caused massive jams throughout Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.

Due to the demonstration, it took me approximately 3 hours to reach my house in SS2, PJ, which normally only take approximately 25 minutes drives on the normal working day.

I normally took this route to get to SS2 in PJ. Jalan Dewan Bahasa, via Jalan Istana then precedes to Jalan Syed Putra before turn into Federal Highway which leading to PJ. However, because of the roadblock, I have no choice but to use an alternative route via Jalan Sg BesiSeremban then turned onto Taman Desa. From Taman Desa, I used an access road that link with Jalan Klang Lama before reaching Jalan Templer, via PJ Old town in order to reach SS2, PJ.

It was a frustrating and a long wary ride for me, aggravated by the snail pace of the traffic along the way. At many points, i.e. in Taman Desa as well as along Jalan Kelang Lama, traffic just come to the stand still, many petrol kiosks were packed with vehicles. The drivers either too tired to drive or looking for a toilet!

Looking out from my car window, I could see some family singing, eating and chatting in their cars. They looked like they are going for a family outing instead of being trapped in a massive jam. At least there is a positive side due to this unfortunate traffic congestions it enhances family bonding!
