Contra-flow scheme to ease congestion

A TRAFFIC contra-flow scheme will be tried out for a month at the Jalan Gasing flyover in Petaling Jaya to see whether it will be able to ease the evening rush-hour congestion.

According to Petaling Jaya city councillor Tang Fuie Koh, the traffic is usually heavy in the evenings with cars from Jalan Gasing heading towards Old Klang Road and the New Pantai Expressway (NPE).

“The flyover for cars coming from Old Klang Road to Jalan Gasing is usually quite empty so for a month, we will try out a contra-flow to allow cars from Petaling Jaya to use the flyover,” he said.

The one-month trial period starts on June 8 and will be from 5pm to 7pm daily.

“The contra-flow is only for cars turning right into Jalan Templer onto the NPE and towards PJ Selatan and Subang,” Tang said.

The traffic flow for cars heading towards Old Klang Road will remain the same, using Jalan Gasing and Jalan Templer.

Those going to Old Klang Road but have got on to the flyover will have to proceed to turn right towards the NPE and make a U-turn to get back on to the Old Klang Road.

Currently, a section of the Jalan Othman roundabout is cordoned off during the evening rush-hour period so cars from Old Klang Road and the NPE heading towards Jalan Gasing will have to use Jalan Templer and make a U-turn at the Assunta Hospital.

Traffic cones will be placed to guide motorists onto the flyover from Jalan Gasing and traffic policemen will be on duty to control the traffic.
